Case Study #3

Brett & Susan

Brett and Susan are a young couple, in their early 30s, living in Wisconsin.

They started out with one set of financial goals which then shifted as they decided to change course in their life.

The financial outcomes they wanted to achieve

They initially reached out to Woodson Wealth Management to get some help putting together a financial plan relating to retirement. They also wanted to determine whether they should cash-out and refinance their home and invest the proceeds elsewhere.

How we helped

We helped Brett and Susan organize all of their investment accounts so we could determine what they owned; whether their investments made sense for them; and reviewed their overall income, expenses, assets, and liabilities. This allowed them to take a hard look at where they were and where they were headed.

We then ran through a variety of scenarios with them before they decided to refinance. Ultimately something shifted through them having a clearer picture of their financial situation as they called us back a few weeks later and said that their entire plan had changed.

They were now contemplating selling the home and purchasing a property in Michigan with a functioning business on the property.

We revisited the plan they had, made some adjustments, and as part of our Business Consulting service, we reviewed the business financials to help them navigate this decision.

As part of that service, we even drafted a two-page letter, outlining the questions they needed to ask at the bargaining table as part of the negotiations to purchase the business.

Where they are now

They are now living in Michigan on 8 acres and working through the process of transitioning the old managers out and running the business themselves full-time.
